William Carroll Stinson

September 9, 1933 — September 29, 2025

William (Bill) Carroll Stinson passed away peacefully on September 29, 2025, at the age of 92. Bill was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, on September 9, 1933, the youngest of two boys, to Nan Connell and Glen Alexander Stinson.

Bill grew up in Shreveport with his mom and brother amongst numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles. He met his darling wife, Martha Ann Calcote, at the young age of eighteen and knew immediately that she would be the girl he would marry and take care of his whole life. Martha brought his life joy and laughter, and he would cherish her until the end. They had three children, William (Billy) Carroll Stinson, junior, Jerry Donald Stinson, and Patty Stinson Purkey.

Bill was a determined man - spending 20 years in night school to graduate from LSUS with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration, all while raising three kids and working his day job at Texas Eastern as a computer engineer. When Texas Eastern moved many of their employees to Houston, he and Martha took off for the big city and loved every minute of it.

The timing was right as the company went through a large round of layoffs, and he was able to retire early to bring Martha home to Shreveport, buying the house right next to her parents on the lake. His retirement was filled with gardening, boating, fishing, traveling, and reading, for which he made ample time. He kept his mind sharp with the New York Times Crossword Puzzle, the Wall Street Journal, and playing the stock market. He and Martha loved going to the beach, and Lulu’s in Orange Beach had the best burger he'd ever eaten.

Everything in Bill’s life was to the benefit of his family. Having only met his father a handful of times, he promised himself that he would always be available to his family; and he would make sure that they were taken care of. His grandchildren were everything to him, spending much of his time running them all over town to their various activities. He was a living great-great-grandfather, and he took pride in every generation.

Bill is preceded in death by his mother, loving wife, oldest son, daughter, and grandson Jamie Edmonson. He is survived by his son Jerry, son-in-law Will Purkey, grandsons Jason Stinson (Becky), Will Edmonson, Andy Edmonson (Mary Margaret), great-grandchildren Makayla Edmonson, Ollie Broyles, Otis Stinson, Alice Stinson, Jaq Edmonson, Mary Minette Edmonson, and Evangeline Edmonson, and great-great-grandchildren Baylor Alexander, Bennet Alexander, and Riley Thompson.

A private graveside service will be held. The family would like to thank the staff at Pilgrim Manor for their kind care of him during the past year.
