Thomas "Tommy" Guenette

d. March 4, 2026

Shreveport, LA

Thomas (“Tommy”) Alfred Guenette, proudly known as Sergeant Major in the United States Army National Guard, was reunited with his bride in Paradise on March 4, 2026. Born and raised in Massachusetts, Tommy spent his military career there, raised his family and later made Louisiana his home where he lived for the past 34 years.

Tommy was married to his childhood sweetheart, Linda, for 55 years before her passing in 2021. He is survived by his daughter Tracy Scott (Blaine) of Louisiana and son Scott Guenette of Massachusetts. He leaves behind four grandchildren whom he adored, Chalaine Kilduff (Joe), Chandelle Maxwell (Cade), Blaine Scott (Kayla), and Mikayla Dansereau plus nine great-grandchildren, who all called him “Pop-Pop” – one of his favorite titles in the world.

He had a special and close relationship with his daughter, son-in-law and grandkids, who he lovingly nicknamed “Tra, Muscle Beach, Laney, Dellie and Bud.” They are so thankful for all the time they had living across the street from one another and being able to spend countless afternoons in the pool, sharing his famous spaghetti dinners on Sundays, laughing over games with him and Nana, sipping coffees on Saturday mornings, making lots of summer road trips and sitting together on Christmases scratching tickets he’d stuff full in our stockings.

A patriot through and through, he loved his country and had a deep respect for the military. He was known by family and friends for his sense of humor and endless supply of funny jokes. A skilled handyman, Tommy also enjoyed playing chess, making homemade cards for everyone and betting 8 black and even on the roulette table. He was a proud member of his local coin club, an avid Jeopardy watcher and in recent years, a virtual member of Word of God Church.

As we mourn his passing on earth, we celebrate his welcome to Heaven. Tommy was always the one who could fix anything, but in recent years, he realized he couldn’t fix himself and made the greatest decision he ever could to follow Christ and get baptized.

If Heaven is anything close to what we can picture down here, Tommy is sipping coffee with Rush Limbaugh, enjoying a stack of ribs and throwing the bones to his best furry pals, Scamp and Mickey. We’ll see you on the other side, Sgt. Major. Rest easy, we've got it from here.

A memorial luncheon will be held Sunday, March 15th from 1-3PM at Hope Community Church of God located at 3247 W. Bert Kouns Industrial Loop in Shreveport. Burial services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to No Fear Foundation: 71 Heather Lane, Terryville CT 06786.
