Roy Davis was born in Centennial, Texas, in 1942 to George Davis and Martha Rudd. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1960.
Roy served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. During his service, he earned several medals, badges, and commendations, including the Purple Heart.
Shortly after leaving the service, Roy moved to California, where he put down roots and found a church family at Saint Mark Baptist Church in Los Angeles.
His only child, Alicia Davis, was born in 1970. In 1971, he married Sadie Carter; they later divorced.
Roy worked as a maintenance support clerk for the United States Postal Service, receiving numerous awards and recognition throughout his career. After retiring, he returned to Louisiana and his church home at Zion Baptist Church, where he served faithfully in many positions, including Deacon and Sunday School teacher.
Wherever he gave his time, he made a difference. Whether in the Army, at his church, or in any organization he was part of, Roy gave his best and made contributions that were recognized and valued. He was a true friend to many, bringing smiles, class, and a sense of purpose to everything he was part of.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his daughter, Alicia Davis; her partner, Jessica Young; a Godson, Charles Lester II; siblings Lola Julian, Brenda Jones, Linda Brown, Tommy Rudd and Sherry Rudd. Also, numerous family members and friends whose lives he touched.
