Rex Mitchell “Mickey” Thompson, 62, of Bossier City, Louisiana, passed away Monday, August 3 2026.

Mickey was born December 12, 1963 in Palestine, TX. He spent his adolescent years in Baker, LA where he met his high-school sweetheart who would go on to be his wife of 33 years. He spent much of his adult life in Bossier City, LA.

He was a proud veteran whose military career spanned service in both the United States Marine Corps and the United States Air Force Reserve. His years of service included periods of active duty and deployments around the world, as well as numerous awards and commendations.

He was most at home outdoors. Those who knew him will remember a man happiest in a boat or on a shoreline with a fishing pole nearby or tending his garden.

He was also an ordained minister, and his faith led him to spend time in hospital outreach, offering prayer, companionship, and comfort to people during some of their most difficult days.

Mickey is preceded in death by his wife Sheila Waguespack Thompson, parents Larry and Marian Kiser Thompson, brothers Roger “Scott” Thompson and Michael Bryant, and nephew Zane Bryant. Mickey is survived by his daughters, Rebecca Summers and husband Marshall of Shreveport, LA and Sarah Thompson of Anchorage, AK. Two grandchildren Joey and Levi Summers, His sister Tracy Bryant and numerous friends and family members.

His family will honor his life with an informal celebration of life at 11 am, Saturday August 29, 2026 at the VFW 1004 Jeter St. Bossier City, LA 71111. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the VFW so that they can continue their mission to serve the interest of our local veterans and their families.
