Phyllis Dorothy Kindred

Our mother, Phyllis Dorothy Dahle Kindred, passed away on September 13, 2017, in Shreveport. Born in Kane, PA on November 7, 1932, she joined the Air Force after high school, meeting her future husband, Ray Kindred at BAFB, where both were stationed. They settled in Shreveport, where mom lived in the home she loved for 62 years. There she raised four children, sewing most of their clothing as well as her own, while pursuing her career as a professional secretary. She worked for Morris & Dickson, Stan's Record Shop and M.L. Bath Co., from which she retired in 1994. Mom and Dad shared many things over 45 years, including a love of Triumph motorcycles, vacations on Sanibel Island, and pro baseball. Sadly, Dad left us in 1995. Mom's remaining years were spent giving love to her grandchildren. Her absence leaves a great void in all our hearts. Mom had a special relationship with our dear sister, Margaret Antonio of Tampa, FL. They shared many adventures together, including a trip to Europe. Maggie's daughter Robin Stanchak often joined them in their travels, creating a formidable trio of Air Force Veterans. Maggie left us too early in 2014, and she is always in our hearts. Mom's pleasures included Disney World, which she visited more than a dozen times, and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Her bookshelves were filled with biography's, spy novels, and British mysteries. She also loved the opera, the symphony, and tending her garden. Her Christmas cookie baking was legendary, as was her skill at Jeopardy. A great giver, no holiday went uncelebrated, no birthday was ever forgotten. She will be with us always. In addition to her husband and daughter, mom was preceded in death by her sister, Janet Johnston of Erie, PA. She is survived by her daughter Loretta Brogan, son Johnny Kindred and his partner Dottie McWhiney, and son Martin Kindred and his wife Margo Kindred, all of Shreveport, La. Her grandchildren include Robin Stanchak of Tampa, FL. Caycie Kindred of Fort Worth, TX, Jessica Reyna of Houston, TX., and Anthony Goings of Shreveport. She leaves behind four great-grandchildren as well. Service to be held at Forest Park Funeral Home, 1201 Louisiana Ave, at 2:00pm Thursday, September 21st, a reception at mom's home for family and friends will follow. Special thanks to AIME Hospice for their loving care, and to our sister Margo Kindred, for her devotion to mom and her unwavering support during her illness. Thank you as well to her neighbors in Cherokee Park, especially Mrs. Peterson, a special lady who watched out for our mother in her later years, better people cannot be found anywhere.
