PATTIE MAE FULLER HUDSON SMITH Pattie Mae Fuller Hudson Smith, 99, a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 7, 2018, with her loving daughter and son-in-law by her side. Pattie Mae was born at home in Hosston, LA. on December 14,1918 to James Patrick Fuller and Gertie Mae (McKinney) Fuller. She attended Louisiana Tech, Ruston, and graduated from Centenary College, where she met the love of her life, Paul Jay Hudson. They married in 1937 and lived in Shreveport before returning to her hometown of Hosston. They were blessed by two children, James Patrick Hudson and Paula Hudson Bates. Pattie Mae was a lifelong member of Hosston United Methodist Church where she served as Communion Steward for 37 years. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and continued to go to meetings into her 90's. She was also a member of the Shreveport Stitchery Guild. Pattie Mae's greatest joy was being surrounded by her family. She loved cooking, sewing, needle work, and gardening. Her favorite past time was playing her favorite hymns on the piano which she continued to play up until 3 months before her death. After 43 years of marriage, Paul passed away in 1981. She later married Murray Smith, who passed away after 9 months of marriage. Pattie Mae was diagnosed with stage 4 lymphoma in 1986 and was a 32-year cancer survivor. In 2001, she moved to Tyler to be closer to her daughter, Paula, and her family. In Tyler, she was involved with Marvin United Methodist Church and continued her involvement in DAR. She will be remembered by her family and friends as an amazing lady who had a positive attitude and has shown us all how to live and love life to the fullest. She will remain in our hearts and memories forever. Pattie Mae was preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul, husband Murray, and sister Audrie Bonnette. Survivors include son, James Patrick Hudson; daughter Paula Bates and her husband, Joe; grandchildren Jennifer Bates Smith and her husband, Tim, Jonathan Paul Bates and his wife, Mariana, Heather Bates Ulrich and her husband, Greg, Joel Hudson Bates and his wife, Christi, James Patrick Hudson and his wife, Connie, Meredith Hudson Morris and her husband Todd, Holly Hudson Morris and her husband Jim, and 21 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a niece, Caren Hamilton and husband, Bill, and their family. A memorial service will be held at Marvin United Methodist Church Chapel on Saturday, June 16, at 3:00 p.m., officiated by Reverend Gerry Giles. The family will receive friends immediately after the service. A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 18, at 11 a.m. at Forest Park Cemetery, Shreveport, with Dr. Pat Day officiating. Pattie Mae's family wishes to express deepest gratitude to the staff, nurses and doctors of Hospice of East Texas, along with her caregivers, Tonya Taylor and Kandy Wesley.
