Mr. Prentis Lee Boatner, Jr.

Prentis Lee Boatner, Jr. entered eternal life peacefully on Wednesday, January 27, 2021, during his 95th year. Born in Arcadia, La. on June 13, 1925, Prentis was the son of Lillian Jewel Pierce and Prentis Lee Boatner, Sr. At seventeen, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and served honorably in the Pacific during WWII from 1943 until 1946. Upon his return from the war, he married Evelyn Fallin and graduated from Centenary College with a major in geology. Together he and Evelyn reared five children. Prentis enjoyed his career as a geologist in Shreveport, Tyler, New Orleans and Jackson and was a member of the Shreveport Geological Society for many years. He was an avid golfer and had a passion for computers which he shared with family and friends. He was a longtime member of Broadmoor Baptist Church. Prentis will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend who lived his life well, serving, sacrificing, providing for and leading his family until his last days. His legacy of loving God and country will live on through the lives of his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Exa. Prentis is survived by his wife of 74 years, Evelyn; his children, Cheryl Petty (Perry), Lee Boatner, Jan Purifoy, Nan Fuller (Kim), and Eric Boatner (Julie); nine grandchildren, Ben Petty (Toni), Tammy Rhyne (Kevin), Darla Perry (Bobby), Lindsay Purifoy, Ellen Pevoto (Ben), Mark Purifoy, Amanda Fuller, Jonathan Boatner, and Melody ODaniel; and twelve great-grandchildren, Abby Petty, Caleb Petty, Rachel Petty, Faith Petty, Emma Hill (Dedrick), Audrey Rhyne, Nathaniel Rhyne, Lily Jones, Spencer Jones, Charley Pevoto, Lilly Purifoy, Colton Martin. A private graveside service will be held Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Forest Park Cemetery, 3700 St. Vincent Ave., Shreveport, Louisiana 71103. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Broadmoor Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.
