Monroe Curlin, 85, long-time resident of Shreveport-Bossier, member of Saint Stephen Lutheran Church, passed away peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, December 5, 2020. Monroe joins his loving mother, Ms. Lela Mae Curlin, in the company of angels in heaven. Born August 28, 1935 in Shreveport, La., Monroe was reared in Bossier City on Saint Charles Street. Graduating from Bossier City High School in 1953, Monroe enlisted in the U.S. Navy (Reserves) and began a long career with Carl Pons Electric Company. It was at Carl Pons "motor shop" that Monroe established his name and reputation for hard work, dependability, and integrity. For over 30+ years in the Shreveport electric motor repair trade, Monroe made a lasting and favorable impression on all who he came into association. Discovering his true love early in life, Monroe and Evelyn Lavelle wed on November 1, 1956 at Shreveports First Lutheran Church, his boyhood congregation for which he often sang in the choir. Monroe is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, and together, Monroe and Lavelle raised a close-knit brood of five children (Kathy, Elizabeth, Sharon, William and Jonathan). Their south-Shreveport home reflected warm love, Christian values, rambunctious laughter, and zany chaos! Monroe and Lavelles legacy of love and generosity extends to eight grandchildren (Michelle, Marisa, Stefan, Chandler, Brandi, Madison, Mitchell, and Amelia), and six great-grandchildren (Kayla, Luke, Emma, Page, Karaleigh, and Cohen). A memorial service will be held at a future date and time when it is safe for family and friends to join in hand and hymn to eulogize the memory and celebrate the life of Monroe Curlin -- husband, father, friend Christian Soldier. The Curlin family would like to express their sincere appreciation, deep gratitude and thanks for the many doctors, nurses and caregivers who provided for and looked after Monroe in his final days; your dedication and commitment is a testament to the goodness and strength of America God Bless America! In lieu of flowers, remembrances and memorials may be made to: St. Stephen Lutheran Church, ATTN: Curlin Memorial, 8400 E. Kingston Rd., Shreveport, LA 71108. Monroe Curlin will be forever remembered for his gentle ways, kindness of heart, and love of laugh, friends, and family. Rest in Peace Dad, We Love You.
