Mr. John Vernon Carlquist

October 6, 1931 — February 22, 2020

John V. Carlquist was born October 6, 1931 in Port Arthur, Texas to John and Mildred Carlquist. He went to be with the Lord on February 22, 2020 after a brief illness at Willis Knighton Pierremont Hospital. John grew up in Port Arthur, Texas and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1950. He was the starting Center on the Varsity Yellow Jackets Football Team. He married Gracie Lee Harrison in 1959. They were married for 33 years. John became widowed at Gracie's death on March 16, 1992. John worked in sales for Associated Building Supply, working his way up to become the Vice President over all Operations and retired from South States Hardware. His primary sin was that he was an avid Dallas Cowboys Fan, but the Lord forgave him of that. John had no biological children but he did have a stepson, Billy E. Flowers, and was the only Dad Billy ever knew. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Mildred Carlquist and a sister Betty Martin. John is survived by his son Billy E. Flowers and wife Sharon; 2 grandsons Billy E. Flowers II and wife Ashley and Chris A. Flowers and wife Sarah; 2 great grandchildren Anna Grace and Parker A. Flowers; sister Loretta Young and husband Kenneth; 5 nephews David L Martin and wife Christine, Kevin Martin and wife Gloria, Roger Young, Robert Lejeune and wife Christina, and Clayton McDuffie and wife Jan; 4 nieces Brenda Young, Karen Ladweig and husband Larry, Liz Lejuene and Debbie DeSoto and husband James. John was a man of prayer and could be heard, at night, praying for his Family and the Nation. He loved having the Bible read to him. He will be missed by all who knew him.
