A funeral mass will be celebrated for Monroe A. Ebarb, Sr., on January 8, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Berchman's Cathedral. A rosary and visitation will be offered on Thursday, January 7, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Forest Park Funeral Home. Monroe finished his race on January 2, 2016, and left this world to be with God in the next. He was 98. Mr. Ebarb was born in Zwolle, LA. He worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps for two years before joining the U.S. Army in 1941. He served during WWII in the Pacific Theater in New Guinea and the Southern Philippines as an ambulance driver and mechanic. He was awarded several military honors including the Medical Badge, the American Theater Campaign Medal, American Defense Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars and one Bronze Arrowhead, Liberation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Meritorius Unit Award, and World War II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1946 after having earned the rank of Sergeant. He later received the Louisiana Veterans Honor Medal. Upon returning home, he began his 40-year career as a house painter. In the 1980's, he became involved in real estate. Mr. Ebarb was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus - Council 1108, the American Legion, and the International Painters and Allied Trades Union, Local No. 485. When he was able, he enjoyed sports, hunting, and fishing.Known by many members of his extended family as ""Uncle Mon,"" he was preceded in death by his wife, Pattsy; his first wife, Margaret; his father, Abram; mother, Elizabeth Nigreville; step-mother, Bessie Ebarb; three brothers, Joseph, Alvin, and Larry; one half-brother, James Ebarb; and three sisters, Earleen Malmay, Irene Busher, and Lula Mae Zern. He is survived by one sister, Florence Finnell of Shreveport; two sons, Adron and Bill; one daughter, Jeannie Klotzbuecher of Shreveport who served as his companion and caretaker for many years; five grandsons; one granddaughter; three great grandsons; and two great granddaughters. Officiating will be Monsignor Carson Lacaze and Rev. Joe Kallookalam. The Knights of Columbus will present a Level Four Ceremony and provide honorary pall bearers.
