Maxie R Hammond Of Montgomery

August 7, 1921 — August 29, 2013

Maxie B. (Reeves) Hammond, (August 7, 1921- August 29, 2013) a gracious, charming, elegant lady, went to the beauty parlor, joined her friends around the television, bowed her head and joined Heaven's angels; So typical of Maxie to exit this world with the same grace and dignity that characterized her life. This wonderful lady will always be remembered for her gift of hospitality. Her weekend barbecues featuring the culinary skills of husband, Charlie, delighted a host of friends and family. She loved all animals and her numerous pets even included a deer that rode by her in the front seat. Maxie was also a marvelous horse woman, and was so excited when in 1958 James Arness chose to ride her horse, Mike, in the rodeo at Hirsh Coliseum. She was also a seamstress extraordinaire, creating beautiful clothes without the need of a pattern. Maxie was born in Montgomery, Louisiana on August 7, 1921. She graduated from Fair Park in 1938 and furthered her education at L.S.U. in 1939 -1940. She worked alongside her husband in their carpet business, but traded her career for raising three energetic children, Charles, Tommy and Judy. Maxie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles E. Hammond, her sons, Charles E. Hammond, II and Tommy R. Hammond, her father, Wesley Byron Reeves, mother, Violet C. Reeves Winterrowd and step-father, Raymond Winterrowd. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Judy Reeves and husband, Rusty, one granddaughter, Kristi Salley and husband, Walter, three grandsons, Charles, Lance, and Jason Hammond, two great- granddaughters, Shelby Ann Salley and Jillian Hammond, and five great grandsons, Christopher and Nicholas Hammond, Jackson & Reeves Salley and Alec Hammond. Special thanks to the staff and nurses at Village Healthcare at The Glen who took such excellent care of her, especially the Memory Care Unit who became our family. Also, a special thank you to care givers, Pat Frazier and Shantrail Lockett and for Diane Crouch with Caddo Counsel on Aging. Funeral services will be at Forest Park Funeral home at 12:00, Sept. 3 in Wellman Memorial Chapel. The viewing will be from 11:00 -12:00 preceding the service. Rev. Denny Duron, Brian Opbroek and Frances Duron will be officiating. Pallbearers are grandsons and great grandsons.
