Mary Spencer

February 22, 1937 — June 4, 2024

Mary Louise Ferguson Spencer went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday,

June 4, 2024. Mary was born on February 22, 1937, in Mansfield, Louisiana, to Edna Lucille

Patrick Ferguson and Jesse Elders Ferguson.


Mary excelled academically and was the valedictorian of Pelican High School in 1955. She

graduated from Northwestern State University in Louisiana, earning numerous honors and the

title of Miss Northwestern. After earning her bachelor's degree, Mary taught English at C.E. Byrd

High School in Shreveport, Louisiana for five years.


While in Shreveport, Mary was introduced to the love of her life, Mr. Leslie Lee Spencer, on a

blind date. Mary and Lee married June 20, 1964, and lived in Houston for over 50 years. Mary

left teaching to become a full-time homemaker and raise her two sons, Loren and Jesse. She

was a very active mother, serving as a homeroom mom for many years for both of her children.

Mary actively supported her husband’s Bible studies and hosted many in her home. She was a

member of Encourager Church in Houston and Community Bible Study.


Mary is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Loren Lee and Brooke Schneider Spencer of

San Antonio, and her son and daughter-in-law, Jesse Clinton and Holly Lunli Spencer of

Houston. Mary is also survived by her nine grandchildren: Lawson Lee, Rainey Kara and

husband Ryan James Ellis and stepson Chandler Joseph Ellis, Mary Alice, Cameron Clark and

Thomas Patrick from San Antonio; Mary Louise, Hosanna Katharine, Hallel Anastasia and

Samuel Lee from Houston. Additionally, she is survived by her loving brother, Curtis R.

Ferguson of Houston and wife Sonya, sister-in-law Shirley Ferguson, and many adoring nieces

and nephews.


Mary was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister Patsy

Ferguson and husband James Frank Booker, and her brother James Douglas Ferguson.


A gravesite memorial and burial will be held on June 29th at 1:00 PM at Forest Park Cemetery

in Shreveport, Louisiana.
