Marvin Blankenship

Marvin Laverne Blankenship, 88, passed away April 3, 2016. Services will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at the Forest Park Funeral Home, 1201 Louisiana Avenue, Shreveport, LA 71101. Friends are invited to join the family for visitation from 11:00am to 12:00pm. The funeral will begin at 12:00pm followed by the burial service with military honors at Forest Park Cemetery, 3700 St. Vincent Avenue, Shreveport LA 71103. Marvin was born March 1, 1928 in Warren, AR to Edgar and Edith Blankenship. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, JT Jackson, Johnnie Blankenship, Lois Wood, Connie McMillon, Betty Belin, and Elizabeth Johnson, and by his beloved granddaughter, Kelly Hope. He is survived by his wife of seventy years, Betty Jean Blankenship, his daughter, Deborah Gaidry, grandsons, Bryan Hicks, and Craig Hicks, and sister, Maxine Mann. Marvin also leaves behind many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. As a young man, Marvin served in the United States Air Force. Later he retired from Libby Owens Ford and Mesquite Independent School District. He was devoted to his family and they were his greatest source of happiness and joy. His cheerful and positive outlook helped him to make friends easily wherever he went. He always had a smile and was ready with words of encouragement or congratulations. His marvelous sense of humor livened up the family gatherings and kept everyone laughing. His compassion, kind-heartedness, and friendship will be greatly missed. Pallbearers will be Jordan Hope, Garrett Hicks, Joel Hicks, Aaron Hicks, Mark Mann, and Mack Mann. Honorary Pallbearers are Steve Mann, Ricky Mann, Gene Chesser Jr., Tommy Groves, Butch Belin, and James Hope.
