Maria Suzanne Markell

June 10, 1972 — June 23, 2022

Maria Suzanne Markell was born on June 10th, 1972, to her parents, Jack and Nancy Markell, in Sanford, North Carolina, and she passed away suddenly on June 23rd, 2022, at the age of 50. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Nancy Markell, both in 2019.

Maria graduated from Monroe High School in 1990. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Art in 1994. Maria was an avid lover of art and photography and was just a month short of her one-year anniversary of being the director of the Noel Community Arts Program at Noel Memorial United Methodist Church. Marias artwork has been featured in numerous galleries all over the Shreveport area. Maria enjoyed music, art, movies, her pets, and spending time with loved ones.

She is survived by her three children, Macy Elizabeth-Grey Schmelz, Lola Jane Schmelz, and Seth Lennon Schmelz; the love of her life, Gregory Allen Preslar; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

There will be a celebration of life held in Maria's honor on Friday, July 1, 2022, with a visitation at 11:00 AM and a funeral service at 12:00 PM at Forest Park Funeral Home, 1201 Louisiana Ave, Shreveport Louisiana. The family asks that everyone in attendance wear color, for Maria thought the world needed to be more colorful. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Noel Community Arts Program at Noel Memorial United Methodist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana.
