Lila Lisa Prime

May 15, 1957 — October 10, 2024

Lila Lisa Strain Prime went to join her Lord October 10, 2024, following a brave eight-month struggle with lung cancer. She was 67.

Lila came from several pioneer families in north and west Louisiana, with deep roots in medical and ministerial vocations.

After she graduated from Byrd High School in 1975 she planned to attend college and pursue a career in social work, but that was not to be. At LSUS she met her husband-to-be, married and began a family, only to be afflicted in her early 20s by bipolar disorder, which plagued her all her adult life. Despite the odds, she used her great empathy and understanding of the human condition to help many friends, neighbors, acquaintances and strangers through their daily struggles. She was a jewel and a saintly woman with a great heart whose loss will be keenly felt by those who were blessed to know her and will carry on her memory. She will be missed.

Lila was preceded in death by her grandparents, Dr. Thomas Everett Strain Sr. and his wife Lucy Stewart Strain, and Gretchen Adra Crawford Stahl and her husband Edwin David Stahl; her parents Dr. James Robert Strain and Dorothy Jane Stahl Strain, RN; her aunt Lucy Lynn Strain Barnette Morgan and her husband, Ira Lee Morgan; uncle Dr. Thomas Everett Strain Jr. and his wife, Dr. Dorothy Mack Strain; aunt Margaret Ann Stahl Raney, RN, and her husband Arthur Raney; her beloved brother Dr. Daniel Stewart Strain; mother-in-law Helen Seco Prime; brothers-in-law Stephen Webster Prime Jr. and Michael James Prime; niece Shannon Marie O’Connell; and nephew Christopher Crawford Strain.

Lila is survived by her husband of 46 years, John Andrew Prime; sons Daniel Webster Prime, RN, and Jeremy Paul Prime, RN, CRNA and his wife Jill Richie Prime, RN, CRNA; brothers Dr. Keith Eliot Strain and David Crawford Strain; sister-in-law Elizabeth Prime O'Connell and husband Kevin; granddaughter Cameron Blake Prime; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins across Louisiana, Tennessee and California.

Lila’s family would like to thank the emergency personnel of the Shreveport Fire Department, the dedicated staffs of the MICUs of Ochsner LSU Health and Christus Highland hospitals, Dr. Benjamin Yan, Dr. Kirtan Koticha, Dr. Ajit Alexander, Dr. Robert Rickman and Amanda Davis, ACNP, for their care and ministrations during her final illnesses; and her decades-long friendship with her therapist, Leesa Sitter.

Lila’s ashes will be inurned near her parents, brother and grandmother Stahl in Forest Park West with graveside services, at a date to be announced.

Memorials in Lila’s name should be made to the animal rescue charity or lung cancer treatment organization of the donor’s choice.
