Lawrence Buck

Lawrence Edward Buck, 85, of Shreveport, Louisiana, died Saturday, June 30, 2018, at his home surrounded by loved ones. Lawrence was born into a large family (with 13 siblings) on March 3, 1933 in Alpine, Arkansas to parents Carrol Jahu Buck and Cornelius Bessie (Thompkins) Buck. The family owned a large farm where Lawrence established his love for gardening, especially growing flowers. In 1953, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. While in the Army, he received a German Campaign Ribbon, National Defense Medal, and the Army Good Conduct Medal. Lawrence has been retired for many years from his occupation in the steel industry with Alloy Piping Products. Later in his life, he enjoyed spending time with his family and returned to his love of growing flowers and helping tend a small vegetable garden at his home. Lawrence married Margie Procell Free in 1960 and their children are Debbie, Cindy, and Timothy. After Margie's passing in 1986, Lawrence married Billie (Shaver) Protho in 1990. Both Margie and Billie precede him in death. Debbie and Timothy also precede him in death along with his stepdaughter, Katie Waldrip. Lawrence is also preceded in death by 7 of his 13 siblings: Rayford, Dwain, Leonia, Louise, Gwindolyn, Evelyn, and Velma. He will be missed greatly by the all of the surviving members of his extended family, including the remaining siblings to which he was extremely close: Clinton, Jewell Dean, Lester, Wesley, Varie Lee, and Eugene.
