Johnny Keen went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 26, 2022, at 7:35 PM, after he lost his fight to an illness at Overton Brooks VA Medical Center. Johnny was born December 24, 1932, in Mangrum Louisiana to the late Lee Keen and Jessie (Overstreet).
Johnny is survived by his wife of 66 years, Iva Lively Keen. Johnny and Iva were married October 13, 1956, in Vicksburg, Mississippi. He is also survived by his 6 children, Jeanie (Earnest) Goldston Adirondack, New York; Janet McGee (Brad) Bryant, AR; David Wayne Keen (Marty) Castor, LA; Melvin Ray Keen (Connie) Houston, TX; Jack Keen (Sherry) Shreveport, LA; James Eric Keen (Temple) Dallas, TX; his sister, Gracie Keen Aaron Monroe, LA; 15 grandchildren: Janette (Johanna and Christy), Janet (Jason and Monica), David (Ladonna and Michael), Melvin (Andrea, Sara, Casey, and Shae), Jack (John, David, and Michael), James (Kallie and Colby); 26 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Johnny was preceded in death by both parents, Lee and Jessie Keen; 3 brothers, Roy Keen, Ernest Keen, and Willie Keen; and 1 grandchild, Christy Gayle McKenney.
Johnny was inducted into the U.S. Army from March 26, 1953, where he served until his honorable discharge on April 10, 1961. Johnny served in the Korean War and was discharged with the rank of Corporal. Johnny retired from the City of Shreveport, Utilities Department where he worked from City Hall the last two years before retirement in 1987. After retirement, Johnny relocated to Hot Springs, AR to work at Hillcrest Children's Home. Johnny also worked in carpentry until he was 85 years old. Johnny loved music. He played fiddle, guitar, bass, and almost any other stringed instrument he picked up. He loved playing music and listening to music. His favorite genre of music was Gospel. Johnny loved sharing scripture from the bible. He was quick with a joke & loved telling funny stories. He and Iva loved traveling and finding music shows along the way.
