John Hasty

November 2, 1934 — December 16, 2014

John Hasty, 80, of Stonewall, passed away Monday, December 16, 2014. He was born November 2, 1934 to the late John Keen and Laura Ellen Hasty. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jacqueline Hasty Fridge and his second wife, Carole Jean Wilyerd Hasty. He is survived by his sisters, Alice Rue Broome and Gloria Surry, his first wife, Mary Lee Dixon Hasty, the mother to his children, Melody Hasty Parker, Linda Hasty Riddick and Justin Riddick, Johnny Travis and Wanda Hasty, Robin Hasty Kay and Keith Kay, Troy Scott and Kim Hasty, 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, step children, Tomi Wommack, Kenny, Clayton, Susan, Darryl and Joy Youngblood his god daughter Crystal Whitman and granddaughter Jean. John Graduated from Louisiana Tech with a B.S. in veterinary science. He served as a cook in the Army and in the National Guard. John owned and operated Pine Haven Dairy. ""we cheat less"" was the motto for his trucking company and custom hay baling operation. Scores of area school children toured the dairy throughout the years learning ""where milk comes from"". Many young men learned what an honest day's work meant by working hauling hay or milking cattle for ""Mr. John"". He served as the president of the board of directors for the North West Pure Milk Producers Association and Grawood Christian School. John bought the first fire truck for the village of Frierson. John was the announcer for the Rodeo held every Saturday night on the Pine Haven property. John was a master furniture maker and the legacy of his craftsmanship can be seen in many local churches, public buildings and private homes. He was loved and respected by all those who knew him. Services will be held Friday, January 2, 2014 at 2:00pm at Forest Park Funeral Home.
