Janet Kathleen Giska

Kathy Giska, age 72, passed away in Shreveport, Louisiana, on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, in the loving presence of her family. Kathy was born on November 22, 1953.

To her family, she was so much more than just an aunt. She was their “Katie”. She was a mom, a sister, a grandmother, and a dearest friend. She was a constant presence in their lives through every high and every low, always showing up when they needed her most. Her love was unconditional, unwavering, and one of the greatest gifts her family will ever know.

Kathy loved a good cup of tea. Whether at home or traveling abroad, you could always find her sampling different teas and chocolates. She was known for hosting annual tea parties for her friends and family, and this is a tradition that her family is continuing. Kathy was also a huge animal lover. She never found a dog she didn’t want to adopt.

Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, Michael Edward Giska Sr. and Jimmie Lee Giska; his brothers, Michael Edward Giska, Jr. and Raymond Richard Giska, Sr.; and her sisters-in-law, Kitty Giska and Sandra Giska.

Those left to cherish her memory include her nieces, Kayla (Leonard) Partain of Shreveport and Tara (Scott) Rodgers of Shreveport, and her nephew, Raymond (Barbara) Giska, Jr. of Holly Springs, North Carolina.

She is also survived by her great-nieces and great-nephews, Katherine Whatley, Michael Whatley, Ryan Rodgers, Grace Giska, Noah Giska, and Evelyn Giska, whom she loved, considered, and treated as her own grandchildren.

The family has chosen to have an intimate celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a local animal shelter in her memory.
