Life reflections of a loving Son, Brother, Uncle, Dad, Paw-Paw, Husband, and Friend

James Stanley Sullivan, Sr.

On November 24, 1955, James Stanley Sullivan affectionately known as “Stan” was born to the late Willie Sullivan and Lucy Collins Sullivan. He was the youngest child of this union and loved his siblings Rose Ann Thomas, Larry, and Joe Lee.

He was educated in the Caddo Parish School system, where he attended Stoner Hill Elementary, J.S. Clark Middle and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1974. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the Air Force Reserves where he served until April 1987, receiving an honorable discharge. He was baptized in 1980 at Shiloh Baptist Church under the leadership of Empris Mims. In 2021, he united with Elizabeth Baptist Church in Benton, LA where he grew and flourished like the woods that he held dear.

He was an avid outdoorsman and had a passion for whitetail deer hunting and fishing. He was also a fantastic cook and was known for his skill in smoking ribs and wild game. Vocationally, he worked for Universal Oil Products (UOP) in Blanchard for more than 42 years. While there, he was promoted into leadership positions and made many long-lasting friendships.

He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Sullivan; mother, Lucy Collins Sullivan; sister, Joe Lee Sullivan; brothers, Ernest, Willie Jr., Albert Sullivan; and grandson, Dre’Sean Redding.

He leaves to cherish his memories, wife, Carolyn Jones Sullivan; sisters, Rose Ann Thomas, and Geneva Jackson all of Shreveport, LA; brother, Larry Sullivan (Sharon) of Lancaster, TX.

He also leaves a lot of memories to his loving children Erica Johnson (Craig) and Derrick Sullivan (Robin) of Allen, TX; James Stanley Sullivan II (April), Sheree Harris Shaw (Carlos), and Demetric Gilliam of Shreveport, LA; Johnnesha Lekeia Sullivan of Winnsboro, LA; and a special son Demetrius Pennywell of Shreveport.

There will be many more memories left to cherish amongst all of his grandchildren. They will miss all of the acts of kindness from their Paw-Paw. He also leaves to cherish his memories a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and great nephews and nieces. He was delighted to also welcome his great grandchild and great great nieces and nephews. His special friends, Jerry Jenkins, Richard Bevins, and a beloved niece, Tracey Moon will all treasure their countless shared experiences with Stan.
