James W. Kennedy Sr.

Shreveport, LA - James W. Kennedy Sr. was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on September 22, 1937 to the late John and Callie Kennedy. He departed from this life September 13, 2014 and is now eternally with the Lord our Savior. In his young adult life he built and raced stock cars receiving many wins, trophies and awards. In addition to racing, he participated in demolition derbies and held the Louisiana State Championship 4 out of 5 years in a row and came in second place in the 5th year. He was often featured in local newspapers for his racing abilities. He was a master mechanic that led to the incorporation of his many companies; Kennedy Trucking, Northwest LA Construction, North LA Construction and Sara's Transportation. He ""moved the earth""! He served our country in the Army National Guard. When he finally retired, his goal was to work on his antique vehicles and enjoy his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a long time member of the Antique Auto Club of America and was recognized as a Master Restorer of Automobiles and Scooters. He was also acknowledged for his talent in the March/April 2008 edition of the ""Antique Automobile ""magazine for his 1953 Cushman Truckster. In addition, he won many other awards and trophies for his excellence in restoration projects. James was married to his soul mate and love of his life, Sara Kennedy, for 55 years. Together they had three children James W. Kennedy Jr. and wife Kristy, Betty Bunger and husband Randy, and Elizabeth Hutson and husband Tony. Many grandchildren; Nathan Kincaid, the late Brandi Kincaid, Phillip Frohman, Anna Frohman, Jason and Shannon Elliott, Daniel and Jennifer Elliott, Ryan Elliott and fianc Katie Gates, Steven Elliott and fianc Lauren Marlar, Darren and Whitney Elliott. Five great-grandchildren ; Heather Elliott, Dylan Elliott, Hunter Elliott, Bailey Elliott, Cade Mahaffey and many nephews, nieces and friends. He greatly valued his relationships and was indeed ""the richest man in town"". The family would like to thank the wonderful Willis Knighton Medical staff and the following doctors; Dr. Pierre V. Blanchard, MD, Dr. Charles R. Byrd Sr, MD, Dr. Maxwell C. McDonald, III, MD, and Dr. Fredric T. Siskron IV, MD for the loving care they provided. Family will receive friends Tuesday, September 16, 2014 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Forest Park Funeral Home, 1201 Louisiana Ave, Shreveport. Funeral Services will be held at the same location on Wednesday, September 17th at 10am, followed by Graveside Services at Forest Park West Cemetery, 400 Meriwether Rd, Shreveport. Pallbearers will be grandsons; Jason Elliott, Daniel Elliott, Ryan Elliott, Steven Elliott, Darren Elliott, Phillip Frohman, and Anna Frohman.
