Henry Eugene Schlatre

Henry Eugene “Buddy” Schlatre, 82, of Bossier City, Louisiana, Sgt. First Class Payroll Officer, passed away at his home on December 19, 2023.

Henry was born October 3, 1941 to  Jewel Anges Glass in Charlotte, North Carolina, and was later adopted by Joesph Boniface Schlatre. Henry spent his life in Bossier City, La. He attended Bossier High School where he graduated in 1961. Henry joined the military after high school. He did a tour with the Airforce, then he transferred and did a tour in the Army. He then went on to serve with the National Guard and he finished his career with the Army Reserves. Henry was involved with Boys Town, by donating to the charity since his early 20’s.

We were raised with Elvis in our home; practically daily his music was enjoyed. To our knowledge dad never received a speeding ticket. He always drove under the speed limit. We hated it, a 4-hour trip to Six Flags would take 7-8 hours. Yet there was one night we went to Downtown Hotel to see Elvis leave to go to the Hirsch Coliseum for his concert. Dad told me to run as he picked up my brother and off, we went. We piled into dad’s yellow station wagon (he had spray painted it) and dad drove as fast as he could following the limousine carrying Elvis Presley. We sat on the hood of that yellow spray-painted station wagon listening to the concert. That was a great night and will always be remembered as the ONLY time in dad’s life that he drove over the speed limit.

Henry is preceded in death by his wife of 20 years, Cheryl Serafini Schlatre; his parents, Joseph and Jewel Schlatre; his sister, Linda Marie Schlatre. Henry is also preceded by his beloved dog, TLD, who he loved so dearly and referred to as his second daughter.

Henry is survived by his children, Lisa Jewel Aple and Mark Gordon Schlatre; grandchildren, Jessica Aple, Abrielle Schlatre, Raiden Caccarelli, and Jalen Ceccarelli; his brother, Michael Thomas; half brothers, Jody and Matt Schlatre; great-grandchildren; Kitana, Kiayah, and Kayden Molina.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 29, 2023. Visitation starting at 10am with Funeral Service to follow at 11am. Interment will be held at Forest Park East.
