Fulton Dixon Jr. (nick name), "Man", 81, passed away Friday, September 21, 2018 in Shreveport, LA. at the Overton Brooks V.A. Medical Center. He was born February 27, 1937 in Hannah, LA. to Fulton Dixon Sr. and Azzie Lee Dixon. Fulton attended Springville High School in Red River Parish, Booker T. Washington in Shreveport, Louisiana, Grambling State University in Grambling, receiving a Bachelor of Art in Business Administration. He also attended Southern University in Shreveport, receiving an Associate Degree in Hotel Management. He spent 8 years in the United States Air Force, obtaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a lifetime member of the NAACP, Chaired Caddo Parish Citizen Bi-Racial Committee on School Desegregation Compliance. Fulton served as Head Start Director for Caddo Parish(CCAA) Anti-Poverty Program, and became the State's "Head Start" Association President. He also served eight (8) years as the Executive Director for CCAA (Caddo Community Action Agency), and was the first Black to head a department for Caddo Parish Commission. He enjoyed fishing, Bar B-queuing, traveling, gardening, listening to gospel and building things (carpentry). He loved his family, loved a good political debate and was a history buff. Fulton was preceded in death by his parents; Fulton and Azzie Dixon, Sisters: Ezzie Mason, Ola Green, Margaret Mims, Iona Poole and brother: Sammie L. Dixon. He leaves behind his loving wife; Annie Kessee Dixon, Keithville, Louisiana, daughter: Sheila D. Cyres of Parker,Texas (Blair) and son, Gregory F. Dixon, Plano, Texas. He also leaves behind two (2) wonderful grandsons: Andre Dixon Cyres and Caleb Eugene Cyres. Surviving siblings include, brother L.B. Dixon, Desoto Texas , (Irene) sisters: Eva Brown , Cerritos, California ,and Etta Mellon, Hesperia, California, many cousins, special nieces, nephews, and a host of other family members and friends. The family wishes to extend a "Special Thank You" to Dr. Prejean and the CCU staff at Willis Knighton North for the care given to Mr. Dixon before and after a very Serious and difficult surgery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Research Hospital, American Heart Association or another charity of your choice. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Forest Park Funeral Home 1201 Louisiana Ave. Shreveport, LA. 71101.
