Fletcher Lee Montgomery, 94, of Shreveport, Louisiana, retired mail carrier, passed away at his home surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, January 10, 2024.
Fletcher was born February 9, 1929 to Alex and Irene Montgomery in Shreveport, Louisiana. Fletcher attended Fair Park High School and later was drafted into the Army, where he served two years. He played Minor League baseball as a pitcher for two years. Fletcher also enjoyed playing golf, which he did well into his 80’s. Fletcher treasured his family, they were his proudest accomplishment. His favorite saying was “As you ramble on through life brother, whatever be your goal, keep your eye upon the donut and not upon the hole.”
Fletcher is preceded by son, Phillip Montgomery; his parents, Alex and Irene Montgomery; and 5 siblings.
Fletcher is survived by his loving wife, Ila Montgomery; children, Mary Davis and Dana Montgomery; grandchildren, Austin Montgomery, Cody Montgomery, and Lydia Berry; and two great-grandchildren, Lily Montgomery and Cohen Fletcher Montgomery.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 16, 2024 from 10:00- 11:00 am at Forest Park Funeral Home with a graveside service at 11:30am at Forest Park Cemetery West.
