Fannie Lee Carey was born to Eddie Lee River (Salton) and Frank Mosley in Tenaha, TX. on August 28,1934. She was the youngest of four siblings. Fannie Lee fondly called ""Black Gal"" was remembered as a sweet girl. She had a natural talent for singing. Since the age of six, Fannie was a self-taught seamstress who continued her passions well into her later years. At the age of eight Fannie and her family packed up and relocated to Louisiana, where during her twenties and thirties, Fannie could be found cutting a rug at the local dance hall. While Fannie was not timid about dancing, she exhibited the same audacity with her singing. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She later served under the leadership of the late Dr. G.W. Odom of Union Star Baptist for many years and later became a member of New Inspiration Missionary Baptist Church under leadership of Pastor Orange. Fannie was also a proud member of the Pure Heart Travelers singing group and traveled all over praising and worshipping God. In doing so, she garnered local fame, having been known all over the state for her angelic voice. In her spare time Fannie would spend hours on end sitting at the sewing machine creating and filing orders for individuals, community choirs and groups. On June 10, 1967 Fannie married the late Leroy Carey Sr. who together established a safe haven for many children throughout the Queensborough community. Fannie was devoted to her family, immediate and extended. Her hands were always at work taking care of her family, being blessed to raise her children and significantly assisted in raising many of her grandchildren and great grands. Fannie will always be remembered for her sense of humor and sharp wit. She was a matriarch of our family and will be dearly missed. She leaves to cherish her memories: son Jessie Clinton, son Freddie Clinton (Leonna) and son Leroy Carey Jr. (Tammy) and step daughter Delores Maxie. Adopted Children (grandchildren); Kenneth Clinton, India Gordon, Stormy Clinton, John Williams, Diana Clinton & Demetrius Clinton. 19 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and dear friends.
