Ernie Lane Carrier

May 24, 1946 — May 20, 2018

​ Ernie Lane "Outlaw" Carrier, 71, of Summerfield, Louisiana, Disabled Vet, passed away Sunday, May 20th, 2018 due to complications from a stroke attributed to 2.5 years of exposure to Agent Orange in Vietnam. He was considered a hero and called the ""bravest man I ever knew"" by many who knew him and/or served with him. He was born May, 24, 1946 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Aaron Lyle and Velma Elaine Hall Carrier. Ernie attended Bossier High School, where he is in the Hall of Fame, and Northwestern State University. He served in the United States Army from 1967 to 1972. He reached the rank of Captain and was awarded numerous decorations, awards and commendations including two Silver Stars, the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts. He was most proud of his Combat Infantry Badge. Ernie enjoyed feeding the deer, caring for and mowing his several acres of land and entertaining company. He loved his wife's cooking, most notably Thanksgiving dinner, gumbo and banana pudding. Ernie loved animals. This included the dogs called The Trips and Lucy and the cats, Ruby and Sophie. All were rescues. He made an effort at least once a year to attend various reunions with The Charlie Tigers; OCS at Fort Benning, Georgia, and the 3/21. He had numerous memberships in various military related associations. He also enjoyed the quilting guild with his wife. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Sally and a daughter. Left to cherish his memory are his wife; Peggy, daughter; Danielle Carrier Landry (Zach) of Winnie, Texas, step daughter, Leah Milne (Derek) of The Netherlands and grandchildren; Atticus and Evangeline "Evie" Landry, and Matthew Wolski (Major, USAF), one nephew and numerous cousins. Ernie's wishes were to have a non-ceremonial cremation and his ashes to be interred in Arlington. There will be a celebration of life held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, June 23, 2018 at the Fire District #6 Training Center on the corner of Hwy 9 and Alt 2 in Summerfield, Louisiana. Memorial contributions may be made to a fund at Claiborne Animal Clinic 3500 Hwy 79, Homer, Louisiana 71040 (318-927-9323) in memory of Ernie Carrier.
