Edith Evans Morgan, 83, passed away Friday, March 15th in Santa Monica with her family by her side.
Born and raised in Jackson Mississippi, Edith attended Mount Vernon Seminary and received degrees from The University of Oklahoma and Otis Art Institute of Parsons School of Design. But she was most proud of her studies at UCLA in Theoretical Physics under professors including Richard Feynman. Edith was a member of The National Society of Colonial Dames of America, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the California Sailing Academy and a Regent of the George Washington Foundation.
Edith was a long time resident of Malibu and a gifted artist. She loved many things; her varied pets, the sound of the ocean, dog walks on the beach, discussing art and world history, working on her tropical koi pond garden and painting, but above all, she loved her son.
Responding to a life long passion for animals, Edith trapped and neutered many a feral cat, assisted feedings at the Jackson Zoo and rehabilitated everything from pelicans to possums. As a licensed marine mammal Wildlife Emergency Responder, Edith joked she could “technically” save a polar bear.
Edith is predeceased by her parents, Kelsey and Jim Evans Jr, her nephew, Jim Evans IV, and his son, Parker Evans. She is survived by her son, Chase, her grandson, Winston, her brother, Jim Evans III, her niece and goddaughter, Kelsey Evans Beh, several nieces, nephews and countless cousins.
A Celebration of Edith’s Life will be held Thursday April 4th 6:00pm at The Country Club of Jackson. She will be interred at Forest Park Cemetery in Shreveport, LA on Friday April 5th 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in memory of Edith to your local animal shelter.
