Dr. Ollie Quinn Nyman

SHREVEPORT, LA- A service honoring the life of Dr. Quinn Nyman, Sr. will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Summer Grove Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Forest Park West. Officiating will be Reverend Billy Crosby and Dr. Murray Hodge. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Ollie Quinn Nyman, Sr. was born on November 17, 1936 in Dallas, Texas to R.W. and Petra Luce Nyman. His Heavenly Father called him home on Saturday, August 18, 2018. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Quinn will be remembered for his dedication to his faith and family. A licensed professional counselor and ordained minister, Quinn held degrees from several universities, including New Orleans Baptist Seminary, Louisiana Tech University, and Louisiana State University. Quinn used his years of experience combining secular counseling with biblical principles as he served as Director of Willis-Knighton's Pastoral Care Division and Director of the Employee Assistance Program. He was also an adjunct professor at the New Orleans Baptist Seminary North LA Center. Throughout his years in the ministry, Quinn served in various positions with churches in the Shreveport area, including Broadmoor Baptist. While at Broadmoor, Quinn was assistant to Dr. John Sullivan and helped start the church's prayer chapel ministry. Always passionate about helping others, Quinn worked to create the Manna House Adolescent Substance Abuse Center. Quinn was loved and respected by family members and friends alike, especially those in his church family at Summer Grove. Quinn spent nearly 23 years on staff with Summer Grove Baptist Church, serving as Associate Pastor and Minister to Singles. Above all else, Quinn spent his life sharing the news of God's love with all he encountered. Quinn is preceded in death by his parents. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 61 years, Jeanne R. Nyman; his daughter Elizabeth D. Nyman, son Quinn Nyman, Jr. and wife, Karen; his grandchildren Ollie Quinn Nyman III (Tr), Austin Nyman, Hannah Nyman, and Morgan Taylor and husband, Andrew. Quinn is also survived by his sisters Petra Kay Fletcher, Leslie B. Rowe, and Richarda E. Didder, as well as many other relatives and friends. Gordon Russell, Tom Johnston, Bill Cothern, Gerald Dyess, Reverend Lane Moore, and Dr. Derrick Stevenson will have the honor of serving as pallbearers.
