Donald E. Morton, Sr.

Donald E. Morton, Sr., age 92 of Shreveport, passed away at the home of his son and daughter-in-law. Arrangements are by the Forest Park Funeral Home, 1201 Louisiana Ave where the family will receive friends from 6:00 pm til 8:00 pm on Sunday, January 13, 2013. A celebration for Mr. Morton's life will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, January 14, 2013 at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Eddie DeHondt officiating. Interment to follow at Forest Park West Cemetery. Mr. Morton was born June 1, 1920 in Osyka, MS to Raymond and Carrie Forrest Morton. He is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Cara Ruth Morton and his parents as well as three sisters and five brothers. Mr. Morton proudly served his country during WWII as part of the US Army Air Corps for four years and was stationed at Cottesmore AFB near Rutland, England. After the war, he worked at Selber Bros. in Shreveport and later retired from Jordan & Booth Men's Store in downtown Shreveport.. He was an avid gardener and a lover of art and was a member of the Men's Art Guild. Mr. Morton & his wife raised their three sons at Mangum Memorial United Methodist Church and were faithful members there for over 50 years. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 66 years, Evelyn Adams Morton; three sons, Gene Morton and wife Barbara of Camden, AR, Brian Morton & wife, Pam of Shreveport and Gary Morton & wife Jeanne of Kearney, NE. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Mark Morton and wife Cheryl, Carrie Morton, Jacob Morton, Adrian Morton, Kasey Morton Powers and husband Chris, Seleste Morton and Christopher Morton. The family wishes to thank Dr. P. V. Blanchard and staff for his 50 plus years of dedication and care as Mr. Morton's physician as well as Miss Linda Thompson, Mr. Morton's private sitter and ""friend"" to the family. The family also sends a special thanks to Hill Cross Hospice, Charlotte Schilling and Mr. Jamison Martin for their care in Mr. Morton's final days. Honoring Mr. Morton as pallbearers will be his grandsons: Mark, Jacob, Adrian, Christopher Morton; his great nephew, Phil Morton, close family friend Michael Conner, and honorary pallbearer Griffin Egner. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Please leave your words of encouragement for the family at www.forestparkfh.com.
