On Friday, January 5th , Len Grubb passed from this life into eternity surrounded by his family at the age of 81. He professed Christ as his savior many years ago and we know that he is now in the very presence of Jesus. Len was affectionately known as “Pop Grubb” or “Grubb” to his family and close friends. Len was born in northeast Arkansas on September 25th 1942. He was the eldest son of Thomas Grubb and Lena Grubb.
He was an outgoing and lively soul that loved life and who always had something to add to any conversation. He left northern Arkansas at the age of 16 and moved south to Shreveport in search of a better life for himself. After a few years, he met Mary Robinette and they married in September of 1961. From that marriage came three children, Karen, Dewayne and Raymond. He loved his kids very deeply. They all knew that they were loved and special to him. If you knew Len, you were better for it. He was always quick with advice, whether it was asked for or not. He would always jokingly say “it’s free, take it or leave it”. Len and business partner Jerry Harr started a company “Interstate Industries” in 1981 that went on to be a success in the Shreveport area to this day. Len was very proud of the business that he and Jerry created and maintained over the years. As time went on and life events happened, a new chapter in Len’s life began, he married Annette Berry in 1999. Annette had two children of her own Matt and Kelly. Len welcomed those two children into his family and loved them as his own. That was just the kind of man he was. If he loved you, it was 100%.
During the latter years of his life, Len suffered from the effects of dementia. This disease was felt throughout the family as it took away what “Pop” was known for which was his quick wit and “Zest for life” as wife Annette always said she love about her husband. No one felt this more than his loving wife Annette. Len fell and broke his hip on December 13th and had surgery the next day and soon went to rehab for his injury. “Pop” developed pneumonia and was sent to Willis - Knighton Piermont in Shreveport. After the doctors did all they could, Len passed away from the effects of the pneumonia and acute respiratory failure.
He was preceded in death by his parents Tom and Lena Grubb, siblings Kenneth Grubb, Marcel McClure and Owen Grubb. He is survived by his devoted wife, Annette Grubb, of 24 years, along with his daughters: Karen Grubb and Kelly Free, husband Keith Free, sons Dewayne Grubb and wife Roxanne Grubb, Raymond Grubb and wife Crystal, Mathew Allen and wife Jessica. Len’s grandchildren included Justin Mackey, Brittany Mackey, Trevor Grubb, Brenda Grubb, Lucas Grubb, Sydney Free, Kyle Allen, Beckham Allen, Cole Sharp and Lily Bryant. Len is also survived by two sisters, Velma Jean Hayes and Linda Kay Oglesey.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the Shreveport Rehabilitation Hospital and Dr. Green and nurse Macy at Willis - Knighton Piermont. The loving care was exceptional and very much appreciated.
A memorial will be held for Len on Saturday, January 27th, at Baptist Tabernacle at 11:30am to honor his life with family and friends. The address for Baptist Tabernacle is 8501 E. Kingston Road, Shreveport La, 71118.
May Len Grubb rest in eternal peace, his legacy forever cherished in the hearts of those he touched.
