Charles Franklin Laskin

Charles F. Laskin, 88, of Stonewall, LA, died on December 9, 2021. Charles was born in Lorain, OH on March 9, 1933. He grew up on his family farm raising a host of vegetables and animals. Charles joined the U.S. Air Force in 1953. He was stationed at BAFB and spent some time in England during the Korean conflict. While stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base, he was a mess cook and met his wife, Beverly. They were married on April 1, 1954. Charles worked for several business in the Shreveport area: Brocks, Mid Continent Steel, Beaird Poulan, and General Motors. He retired from GM after 14 years. Since retiring, he and his wife traveled around the United States and enjoyed several cruises. He also grew a huge garden and was known for growing the BEST tomatoes around. Charles is preceded in death by his parents, John P. and Elizabeth Laskin; wife, Beverly; son, Jay; daughter, Penny L. Melvin; and brothers, Jay, Alvin, John, and Lenny. He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Stevenson, of Akron, OH; sisters-in-law, Bertha Laskin and Susan Laskin, from Ohio; children, Peggy (Billy) Lyles, Mansfield, LA, Charlene Rushing, Benton, LA, Pam (Jimmy) List, Stonewall, LA, and Mary (Bobby) Baker, Keithville, LA; and son-in-law, Eddie Melvin, Stonewall, LA. He is also survived by grandchildren, Tony and Jaime Adams, April Romano, Daniel and Kristie Lyles, Tatum and Andy Flick, Shelly and Chad Thornton, Madison Cox, Beth Mabry, Chas Baker and fianc, Anna Mason, Kendall Melvin, and Stefani and Korey Brown. Also surviving are 12 great-grandchildren, Reece Thornton, Kristen and Ray Carter, Keri Adams, A.J. Adams, Alex Romano, Zac Romano, Seth Walker, Justin Vasquez, Nathan Baker, Daisie Mabry, LeAna Hardy, and C.J. Hiner. Also surviving is 1 great-great-grandchild, Ryder Carter, along with several nieces and nephews in Ohio. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and great-grandsons. Funeral services will be at Forest Park Funeral Home, and burial will be at Forest Park West Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude, Wounded Warriors, Woodys Veterans Home, or a charity of your choice.
