Carol Ruth Munden Fullilove July 2, 1943 - June 9, 2016 Carol Ruth Munden Fullilove died on Thursday, June 9th after a strong and courageous battle with cancer. She was 72 years old. Carol was born on July 2, 1943 in Marshall, Texas. She graduated from Marshall High School and attended Draughon Business College in Shreveport, LA where she met her future husband, Dick Fullilove. They celebrated fifty-four years of marriage on the day preceding her death. Carol will be remembered as a selfless volunteer who spent over forty years serving children in our local schools through the Parent Teacher Association (PTA). She was a member of the local PTA units since 1972. Not only did Carol serve as PTA/PTSA President at every school where her daughters attended (often more than once), but she also served as Caddo District President, Louisiana State President and on the National PTA Board. She was the Chair of the Caddo Parish PTA Safe Schools Committee and served the Caddo PTA on the Technology Committee, Discipline Committee, Drug Advisory Council and numerous other committees. Carol also served on the Louisiana Teacher of the Year Committee, Governor Edwin Edwards Education Transition Team, Arts in Education Task Force and the Louisiana Coordinating Council on the Prevention of Drug Use. She was also involved in the Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier where she served as Secretary. Early in her children's school careers Carol found a passion for volunteering with the PTA. Over the years, she raised thousands of dollars selling World's Finest Chocolate, organizing carnivals and field days, operating Christmas stores and many, many other events. When her daughter attended Youree Drive Middle School in the 1970s and she learned that there was no air conditioning, she spearheaded raising enough funds to put a window unit in every classroom. When Carol saw a child at school without proper uniforms, she would quietly go purchase some for them. She received the Outstanding Grandparent award from Arthur Circle Elementary for 1999-2000. Carol dedicated her life to making sure that every child could have the best possible educational experience. After years of volunteering, Carol was employed with the Caddo Parish School Board. She worked in the offices at Youree Drive Middle School, South Highlands Elementary Magnet and Arthur Circle Elementary. She loved her Arthur Circle Cougar Family and became an indispensable member of their staff, twice receiving the Caddo Parish Outstanding School Support Employee recognition in the Elementary School Division. Carol was recognized with the Captain Shreve Circle of Honor award in 1998 honoring her Gator spirit, determination and accomplishment. Carol is preceded in death by her father, Hugh Ronald Munden and daughter, Holly Carol McLemore. She is survived by her husband, Donald Richard (Dick) Fullilove; daughter, Kimberly Allison FitzGerald; mother, Rosa Mae Munden; brother, Ronald Hamill Munden (Deloris); granddaughers, Ashleigh Nicole FitzGerald, Caitlin Allison FitzGerald, Morgan Kaley Price and Hannah Dyan FitzGerald. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 14th at 10:00 AM with visitation from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Monday, June 13th at Forest Park Funeral Home, 1201 Louisiana Avenue in Shreveport.
