Arthur Jay McLaughlin, age 77, of Elk Grove, CA, passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Sacramento, CA, on April 21, 2024. Born on September 19, 1946, in Shreveport, Louisiana, Arthur was the beloved son of Arthur Jay McLaughlin and Cora Smith Cousin. He grew up alongside his sisters Catherine and Mary Ethelyn.
Arthur's life was marked by dedication and service. He attended Saint John Berchmans Catholic School and graduated from Jesuit High School in Shreveport in 1964. Accepted to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, he graduated in June 1968 and embarked on a distinguished career as a naval officer. Throughout six years of service, Arthur completed tours of duty in Vietnam, demonstrating unwavering courage and commitment to his country. Following his honorable discharge in 1974, he joined Mobil Oil as a financial analyst, where he dedicated 20 years of diligent work before retiring early.
Settling in Northern California for the last three decades, Arthur enjoyed time with family and friends and pursued his passions with vigor. An ardent football enthusiast, he faithfully supported the Navy Midshipmen and the LSU Tigers, finding joy in every game. Arthur's keen intellect and curiosity led him to follow current events and financial markets closely, ensuring he remained well-informed. He cherished his Jesuit High School and Naval Academy classmates and the class reunions he loved to organize, as well as the other deep and lasting friendships he formed throughout his life with those he loved and admired.
A devout Catholic, Arthur's spiritual journey was central to his life. Engaging in bible studies, classes, and discussions, he nurtured a deep connection to his faith, finding solace and strength in his beliefs. He was a parishioner of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in Sacramento and Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Elk Grove.
Arthur is survived by his daughter Kelly Hunsaker, his grandchildren Rachel Hunsaker and JT Hunsaker, his former son-in-law Kevin Hunsaker, his sister Mary Ethelyn Domingue, his aunt Mary Rains, his nephew Shearn Lemoine and nieces Christa Lemoine, Stephanie Domingue Touchet, and Jennifer Domingue Arnaud, his first cousins Christine Doucet, Suzette Bienvenu, Robert Park Jr., Rebecca Rains, Cora Rice, Johnathan Rains, Paul Michael McGill, and his former spouse Elizabeth Loudes McLaughlin.
A Viewing and Visitation will take place on Thursday, May 16, 2024, from 5pm to 7pm at Forest Park Funeral Home, located at 1201 Louisiana Avenue in Shreveport, LA.
A Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, May 17, 2024 at 10:00 am at St. Michael the Archangel Chapel, located at 939 Jordan Street (at Cathedral of Saint John Berchmans) in Shreveport, LA, followed by private burial services at Forest Park East Cemetery.
Arthur Jay McLaughlin's legacy of service, devotion, and love will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and cherished him. May he rest in eternal peace.
