Musician Alton Harris, 72, of Shreveport passed away Monday, October 27, 2014 at his residence. He was a Christian man, very well liked, an accomplished musician, he was gracious to everyone. He will be missed dearly. He is preceded in death by his mother Ruby Washington, grandmother Bessie Lee Payton, Grandfather Henry Payton, Uncle Willie Harris, and his Aunt Exile B Harris. Left to cherish his memories are brothers, A. Washington of Shreveport , LA, Luther Washington Jr. of Dallas, TX; sisters, Bessie Jones and husband Isaiah of Dallas, TX, Gloria Rice of Wilmer, TX; godsons J. Moore and D. Moore of Shreveport, LA, and a wonderful host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Alton received his masters degree from Grambling State University. He attended Centenary College in Shreveport where he received his doctorate in music. Alton also attended Remington College, where he received his doctorate in medical research. He played and directed the choir at Greenwood Baptist Church. Alton also played music and directed the choir at Mt. Parriam Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Barney Rice, Melvin Conner, Jamal Robinson, Jason Hunicutt and Reverend David Ashton Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Allen, Clyde Poole, Isaiah Jones and Anthony Rice. Visitation will be held 5 to 7 pm Friday November 7, 2014 at Forest Park Funeral Home. Visitation will resume 9 am until time of service at 11am on Saturday, November 8th, 2014 at Magnolia Baptist Church. Entombment will immediately follow at Forest Park East Cemetery.
