Alex Vasilas Thomas

On Friday, Oct. 21, 2022, Alex V. Thomas, at the age of 92 years and 10 days, peacefully passed away while residing at his home in Chickasha, OK, with his family by his side. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 PM on Mon., Oct. 31, 2022, at Forest Park Funeral Home, 1201 Louisiana Avenue, Shreveport, LA. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tues., Nov. 1, 2022, at Forest Park Funeral Home and officiated by Pastor Bill Treadway. Burial will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery, 4000 Meriwether Road, Shreveport, LA. Pallbearers will be Robin Thomas, Elliot Thomas, Curtis Sanford, Thomas Sanford, Stephen Briggs, and Jody Parker.

Alex was born in Shreveport, LA, on Oct. 11, 1930, to Willie A. Thomas, a native of Triglia, Turkey, and Clara Jane Parker Thomas, of Jena, Louisiana. He was a resident of Cedar Grove/Shreveport and Mooringsport, LA, until moving to Chickasha, OK, in 2014 to be closer to his daughter and son-in-law. Alex was a 1948 graduate of Byrd High School in Shreveport, LA, and received an Honorable Discharge as a U. S. Navy Veteran having proudly served as a Commissaryman Seaman on the USS FRONTIER (AD-25) and USS HENRY W. TUCKER in the Korean War. He worked as a Manager and then as a Supervisor for Economy Oil Company for many years, Pump Masters, Louisiana Downs, and lastly for the Caddo Parish, LA Waste Management in Blanchard, LA. He and his loving wife, Jessie, also spent several years building and painting wood items to sell at local craft shows.

Alex was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary Lee Yates (husband, Ike) and Stella Rafella (husband, Anthony); and his brother, Willie J. “Tommy" Thomas (wife, Raye).

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 67 years and 13 days, Jessie Mae Brantley Thomas; daughter, Gail Avery (husband, John) of Blanchard, OK; son, Chris Thomas (wife, Laura) of Mooringsport, LA; and his nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give special thanks to the VA Medical Center of OKC and to Around the Clock and Choice Hospice for the loving care they gave Alex in his time of need.
