Albert Joseph Gonyea, age 83 of Shreveport, passed Sunday, June 9, 2013 at the Northwest LA War Veterans Home in Bossier City after a lengthy illness. Arrangements are being handled by Forest Park Funeral Home,1201 Louisiana Ave., Shreveport, where the family will receive friends at 5pm with a Rosary at 6pm on Wednesday, June 12, 2013. The funeral mass will be held, at 10am Thursday, June 13, 2013 at St. Michael the Archangel Chapel of St. John Berchman Cathederal, 947 Jordan St. with interment to follow at Forest Park West Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his wife Irene Ann Griffin Gonyea,his parents, Edward Emile and Anna Tavernia Gonyea, his sister Agnes, brother Robert, and brother-in-laws, Gerald Allen, Herman Latreille and John Rule. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Jackie Foster & husband, John, Michael Gonyea & wife, Lou Anne, Bruce Gonyea & wife, Paula, Peggy Brown & husband, Joseph, Glen Gonyea & wife, Rhonda, David Gonyea & wife, Kristie; grandchildren, Brandon Gonyea, Melissa Gonyea, Victoria Gonyea, Conrad Gonyea, Christopher & Bryan Foster; great-grandchildren, Abigail & Ava Foster and sisters, Grace Rule and Theresa Allen of Malone, NY and Margie Taro and husband, Al of Casselbury, FL. He is also survived by former daughter-in-law, Mary Gonyea as well as sister-in-law, Shirley Gonyea of Manvel, TX as well as numerous nieces and nephews and friends. Mr. Gonyea proudly served his country by joining the United States Air Force at the age of 18 and served 21 years, retiring at Barksdale Air Force Base as a TSGT. He served in both the Korean War as well as in Viet Nam. During the Viet Nam War he served in Bangkok, Thailand refueling aircraft. After his service he enjoyed another career, that of serving the people of the Ark-La-Tex in the Auto Sales Industry. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Heritage Manor Nursing Home, especially Shanna, Brenda, Kathryn, Eddie and Derrick; as well as the staff of the Northwest LA War Veterans Home, especially, Dr. Roy Fleniken, Linda Pullig, RN and Rhonda Johnson, RN for their loving care and attention. We also want to thank the staff of Willis-Knighton Pierremont Life Care, especially Dr. Jason Nelson for their care during his last five weeks.
